Scholarships
The Children of Employees Scholarship program identifies children of employee or retirees who have achieved excellent records in high school and provides financial assistance to those students pursuing higher education.
How it works
This scholarship provides up to 25 scholarships worth $1,500 each. Scholarship award recipients may enroll in any accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school in the United States.
Awards are for undergraduate study only.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit and are given without regard to race, creed, color, sex, religion, national origin or physical handicap.
The program is independently managed by Scholarship America. Funding of the scholarship program will be provided through Alliant Energy.
Eligibility
Dependent children of Alliant Energy employees eligible for company benefits (which includes all union and non-union employees who are part-time 50 percent or greater) who have a minimum of one year of continuous service by January 1 are eligible for the program (a dependent child is described in the company's insurance plans).
In addition, children of employees who have retired from the company who are covered by the pension plan, or children of deceased employees (employed full-time at the time of their death or who die after retiring) also are eligible for the program.
Dependent children of company officers, vice presidents and directors are not eligible for this program.
The student must be a current high school senior or recent high school graduate (within three years) who will be starting his or her first year full-time course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Selection
Alliant Energy scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic record; participation in school and community activities; work experience; and educational goals.
The program is managed entirely by Scholarship America, which receives and evaluates the applications, selects the students to receive scholarships, notifies all applicants and issues the scholarship checks.
The Selection Committee is fully qualified and experienced in evaluating scholarship applications. No member of the committee is connected with Alliant Energy, any of its predecessor or subsidiary companies, or the Alliant Energy Foundation.
All applicants will be notified by April 1 whether they are awarded a scholarship or not.
Students' responsibilities
Students are responsible for gathering and submitting to Scholarship America all information necessary for participation in the scholarship selection process as outlined on this website. They are also responsible for applying for admission to a two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school; meeting the entrance requirements; and gaining admission.
Students who are awarded an Alliant Energy Scholarship must enter college no later than the fall term of the year in which their award is given.
Except as described above, no obligation of any kind will be imposed on the student as a scholarship recipient. Likewise, Alliant Energy assumes no obligation in connection with granting the scholarship.
Alliant Energy recognizes outstanding community leadership in young people and helps students reach their academic goals. Alliant Energy's Innovation Scholarship is awarded based on participation in a leadership role in community service activities and volunteer work; academic grade point average; standardized test scores; and the content of an essay submission.
More information about the Alliant Energy Innovation Scholarship, including how to apply, can be found on the Alliant Energy website.
In addition to the scholarships above, a number of opportunities are also available through our partnering schools. These scholarship opportunities are reflective of careers in the energy industry. Application and selection for these scholarships are managed by each individual school.
